Pest ID of Common Landscape, Turf, and Interiorscape Pests | Mississippi Approved
Instructor: Sarah Racine
This course explains how to recognize and manage common pests found in interiorscape, landscape, and turf settings. The two-hour course is approved by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and begins by describing common pest types.
Identify and control invertebrates like arthropods (spiders, insects, mites, and others) with lessons that describe developmental stages, body structure, and proper treatment strategies. Vertebrate pest control comes next with lessons on gophers, rabbits, and moles. Managing disease-causing pathogens like viruses, bacteria, and fungi is also discussed.
A portion of the course is dedicated to identifying and managing weeds and other nuisance plants. Learn about the different obstacles that prevent effective control and why dandelions, crabgrass, and clover spread so rapidly. Weed life cycles, development, classification, and physical features (flowers, leaves, stems, roots, and seeds) are also explained.
The last lessons explain how to identify and manage specific pests in different environments.
Interiorscape pests covered include:
- Fungus gnats
- Aphids
- Spider mites
- Mealybugs
For landscape and turf, learn how to manage:
- Japanese beetles
- Cutworms
- Master grubs
- Moles and voles
- Deer
Quizzes appear throughout the course to make sure you understand the material and can apply all that you’ve learned.
