Pest ID of Common Landscape, Turf, and Interiorscape Pests | Wyoming Approval #2738
Instructor: Sarah Racine
This two-hour course describes ways to identify and control landscape, turf, and interiorscape pests.
The lessons, which are approved by the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, start with an overview of the different pests you’ll encounter.
Start with lessons that explain how to identify and control invertebrate arthropods like mites, insects, and spiders. Find out how to choose the proper treatment methods with lessons describing arthropod developmental stages and body structure.
Sections covering vertebrate pests come next, with lessons covering managing gopher, rabbit, and mole management. Then, familiarize yourself with disease-causing plant pathogens like bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
A portion of the course is dedicated to a major annoyance you’ll encounter: weeds and other nuisance plants. Improve your weed prevention and treatment strategies by learning how to overcome obstacles that can prevent proper control. Find out why specific weeds dandelions, crabgrass, and clover spread so rapidly. Finally, learn about a weed’s life cycle, development, classification, and physical features (flowers, leaves, roots, stems, and seeds).
The final part of the course discusses identifying and managing specific environmental pests.
Interiorscape pests covered include:
- Aphids
- Spider mites
- Fungus gnats
- Mealybugs
- For landscape and turf settings, find out how to control:
- Master grubs
- Japanese beetles
- Deer
- Cutworms
- Moles and voles
We include quizzes throughout the course to make sure you remember what you learn so you can apply your skills.
Pest control specialists who complete this course will understand how to properly identify and control the pests that threaten Wyoming’s landscape, turf, and interiorscape environments.
