To protect people, wood foundations, interior furnishings, and stored food, Washington pest managers must know how to properly and safely control interior and exterior pests. In this course, pest managers will learn how to identify and control pests found in industrial, residential, and institutional buildings. Pests covered in this course include insects, bats, fungi, weeds, rats, mice, and certain birds. The course also provides practical management methods for the pests listed above.
Students who complete this Washington State Department of Agriculture-approved course will be able to:
- Identify common vertebrate and invertebrate pests and create effective management strategies
- Describe wood-destroying pest damage and explain the importance of treating wood prior to use
- Identify common stored-food pests and know how to avoid them
- Identify and manage common fabric pests
- Identify common parasitic, biting, and stinging pests and know how to manage them
