Review of Pesticide Use Hazards | Texas Approval #919269
Instructor: Sarah Racine
Pesticides can harm more than just the pests they are designed to control. This one-credit course, approved by the Texas Department of Agriculture, covers pesticide use hazards. Improper use of pesticides can cause toxic exposure to humans, animals (including pets), local plants and nearby surface or groundwater.
Pest managers must be aware of the risks and hazards associated with the pesticides they employ. This course explains the three categories of pesticide toxicity and the factors that influence them. Depending on the method of application and pest control goals, pesticides may belong to several designations or categories.
Using this course, pest managers will learn to protect themselves and others from hazardous pesticide exposure. Recognize the signs of pesticide exposure in humans, testing methods for animals, and best practices to minimize contact with non-target organisms.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize strategies to minimize excessive pesticide exposure risk to pets, plants and the environment.
- State appropriate measures to take in case of pesticide accidents.
- Describe the characteristics of various pesticide formulations.
- Explain pesticide toxicity and the different hazards of human pesticide exposure.
