Review of Pesticide Use Hazards | South Carolina Approval#23631
Instructor: Sarah Racine
Pest managers must be aware of the potential damage to the environment, flora and fauna when applying pesticides. This one-credit course, approved by the South Carolina Department of Pesticide Regulation, contains crucial training on the toxicity and hazards of pesticides.
Pesticides are toxic substances that can pose significant harm to non-target organisms, including human exposure, injury to pets, water contamination and phytotoxicity in plants.
Pesticides belong to one of three toxicity categories depending on several factors which influence the hazard of the chemicals. Covered topics include pesticide classification, designations based on the type of pests controlled, tests for toxicity determinations in animals and recognizing toxic exposure in humans.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize strategies to minimize excessive pesticide exposure risk to pets, plants and the environment.
- Describe the characteristics of various pesticide formulations.
- State appropriate measures to take in case of pesticide accidents.
- Explain pesticide toxicity and the different hazards of human pesticide exposure.
