Pesticide Emergency Management and Environmental Protection | South Carolina Approval#23630
Instructor: Sarah Racine
Safe pesticide use begins long before application and long after pests are gone. This one-credit course is approved by the South Carolina Department of Pesticide Regulation to teach safe and legal pesticide use techniques.
A management plan is your first line of defense against emergencies and environmental harm. Notifications and signs help protect the public through advance warning. Take great care in your chemical and equipment selections, application techniques, cleanup, disposal and recordkeeping practices. Use only approved service containers to store, mix and transport chemicals.
Pesticide alternatives are safer than toxic chemicals and may be appropriate in place of hazardous pesticides. This course explores viable cases for non-pesticide treatments.
Emergencies pose a threat to people and the environment. Know how to react to spills, leaks and misapplications. Be prepared to provide first aid for exposure to skin, clothing, eyes and the respiratory system.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
– Identify pesticide safety measures to protect people and the environment from pesticide exposure.
– Explain how to handle pesticide emergencies such as leaks, spills and misapplications.
– Discuss effective equipment selection, safe application techniques and proper practices for cleanup and disposal.
– Describe appropriate ways to handle and apply pesticides.
– Recognize different types of pesticide emergencies and corresponding first aid measures.
