Pest ID of Common Landscape, Turf, and Interiorscape Pests | South Carolina Approval #24533
Instructor: Sarah Racine
By taking this course, you’ll discover ways to identify and control common interiorscape, landscape, and turf pests. Learn with confidence knowing all lesson material is approved by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. The two-hour course opens with an overview of the various pests you’ll be managing, starting with invertebrates.
Arthropods (insects, mites, spiders, and others) come first with lessons detailing developmental stages, body structure, and proper treatment strategies.
Vertebrate pests are addressed next, with recommendations for dealing with rabbits, gophers, and moles. Lessons about disease-causing pathogens like bacteria, fungi, and viruses are discussed too.
Part of the course deals with weeds and other nuisance plants. Discussions cover obstacles that prevent proper control and why dandelions, crabgrass, and clover spread so rapidly. You’ll also learn about the life cycles, classification, development, and physical features (flowers, leaves, stems, roots, and seeds) of weeds.
Finally, lessons explain ways to identify and manage specific environmental pests.
Interiorscape pests discussed include:
- Fungus gnats
- Aphids
- Spider mites
- Mealybugs
For landscape and turf, learn how to manage:
- Deer
- Cutworms
- Japanese beetles
- Master grubs
- Moles and voles
The course uses quizzes to make sure you can remember and apply what you’ve learned when working.
Pest control specialists in South Carolina who finish this course will understand pest identification and control methods required to maintain healthy and vibrant plant settings.
