Review of Pesticide Use Hazards | Oklahoma Approval #OK20230353
Instructor: Sarah Racine
Toxic substances found in pesticides can harm humans, pets, other non-target species and the environment. This one-credit course, approved by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, instructs pest managers on the hazards of pesticide use and how to avoid toxic exposure.
Improper use of pesticides can result in human injury or illness, phytotoxicity in exposed plants, contamination of surface or groundwater, and toxic effects in pets or other wildlife. This course outlines measures to prevent and minimize hazardous exposure.
Every pesticide belongs to one of three categories of toxicity, governed by various factors that influence toxicity. Pesticides are further divided into designations based on use and the pests they target. Common formulations of pesticides are explored in depth.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize strategies to minimize excessive pesticide exposure risk to pets, plants and the environment.
- Explain pesticide toxicity and the different hazards of human pesticide exposure.
- Describe the characteristics of various pesticide formulations.
- State appropriate measures to take in case of pesticide accidents.
