Review of Pesticide Use Hazards | New York Approval #NY-24-426648
Instructor: Sarah Racine
Examine the toxicity and hazard of pesticides in this one-credit course, which is approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The course contains important information about the classification and designation of pesticides as well as tools to evaluate toxic exposure in humans and animals.
Pesticides affect more than just the pests they were designed to control. They can be dangerously toxic to humans, animals, and plants in the environment when used incorrectly. Pest managers need to be aware of human exposure, injury to pets, phytotoxicity in plants, contamination of groundwater and possible effects on other species in the environment.
This course explains the three categories of pesticide toxicity and the factors that influence toxicity. You will also become familiar with common pesticide formulations and the signs of toxic exposure in humans as you master the hazards of pesticides.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- State appropriate measures to take in case of pesticide accidents.
- Recognize strategies to minimize excessive pesticide exposure risk to pets, plants and the environment.
- Explain pesticide toxicity and the different hazards of human pesticide exposure.
- Describe the characteristics of various pesticide formulations.
