This course includes safety instruction for the classification and use of pesticides. Become familiar with factors that influence pesticide toxicity, the three categories of pesticide toxicity and the various designations for pesticides based on the pests each chemical is designed to manage.
Instruction also covers the environmental impact of pesticide use, which can include hazardous exposure to humans, danger to pets, unintended consequences to non-target species and even groundwater contamination. This course will guide you through the steps to minimize undesirable or dangerous pesticide exposure.
You will also learn to recognize the symptoms of toxic exposure in humans, methods for testing animal toxicity and the dangers of phytotoxicity in plant life.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the characteristics of various pesticide formulations.
- Recognize strategies to minimize excessive pesticide exposure risk to pets, plants and the environment.
- Explain pesticide toxicity and the different hazards of human pesticide exposure.
- State appropriate measures to take in case of pesticide accidents.
