Pest Control Practices in Residential, Industrial & Institutional Structures | Delaware DoA Approved
Instructor: Sarah Racine
Numerous unwanted pests reside in or around structures. Pests damage structural wood, furnishings, or fabrics, infest stored food or other items, and cause considerable economic losses through this damage. Some pests spread disease organisms that cause severe human illness, and certain types inflict annoying or painful stings or bites. Weeds detract from the appearance of structures, can cause fire or safety issues, and are capable of harboring other pests. And some nuisance pests can contaminate products or cause legal concerns in commercial areas.
Pest managers need to be able to control pests that damage property, infect or injure people, or affect someone’s quality of life. However, doing this requires safe, effective, and economical management methods. This course will cover several ways to control pests while making pest management decisions that reduce hazards to yourself, other people, and the environment.
After completing this course participants will be able to:
- Outline effective practices for the management of pest populations in and around structures.
- Implement proper inspection, monitoring, and trapping practices for pests.
- Describe pest weed damage and explain why treating weeds around structures is important.
- Select and properly apply various types of pesticide formulations.
- Identify common food pests and how to manage them.
