Pest ID of Common Landscape, Turf, and Interiorscape Pests | Delaware DoA Approved
Instructor: Sarah Racine
This two-hour course contains lessons that are approved by the Delaware Department of Agriculture to explain how to identify and control pests found in landscape, turf, and interiorscape environments.
The course begins with a summary of the following:
- Invertebrate and vertebrate pests
- Weeds
- Disease agents
After learning about the environmental consequences of these pests, the course covers treatment strategies and their environmental considerations.
Understand how to identify different invertebrate pests like arthropods (insects, spiders, mites, and other groups) with lessons focused on body structure, developmental stages, and targeted treatment strategies. Parts of the course also address managing vertebrate pests such as gophers, rabbits, and moles alongside disease-causing pathogens like viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
A brief part of the course discusses ways to identify and manage weeds and other nuisance plants. Discover how certain obstacles can prevent effective control and why dandelions, crabgrass, and clover spread rapidly. Weed development, life cycles, classification, and physical features (flowers, leaves, stems, roots, and seeds) are also described.
Finish the course with strategies for identifying and managing specific pests in different environments. For landscape and turf, grubs, cutworms, Japanese beetles, moles, voles, and deer are covered. For interiorscapes, learn how to handle spider mites, fungus gnats, aphids, and mealybugs.
All lessons include quizzes designed to test your knowledge and ensure you can apply what you’ve learned.
Pest control professionals in Delaware who complete this course will understand pest identification and control techniques required to maintain strong and lively plant settings.
